Back to School Shopping Tips

Kodak conducted a national survey which found that more than half of parents dread the shopping expenses that come with the beginning of a school year. Families with school-age children are expected to spend $563.49 on back-to-school merchandise this year, up 6.9 percent from last year’s average.

Kodak is teaming up with Kathy Peel from FamilyManager.com to help families watch their spending habits as they start their back-to-school shopping.

Here are some tips from Kathy:

Shop for school supplies at an office supply store. They usually have a broad selection on sale before school begins. You can pick up items you need at the same time. (Watch for coupons before your shopping day, and you may save even more.)

While they’re on sale, purchase extras of the supplies your kids will need to buy again, such as pens and pencils, notebook paper, computer paper, and report folders. This way you won’t have to pay top dollar later on.

Look for values in electronics such as computers and printers. If you research the products before hitting the stores, you will learn which product is the best for your budget.
One of the number one items on a parent’s shopping list is printer ink. Printing is one of those items that you never consider the on-going costs until you have to go out and buy a refill cartridge. Kodak just recently released a new all-in-one printer called EASYSHARE that reduces the cost of printing by 50%. This means that EASYSHARE printer cartridges are $9.99 for black and $14.99 for 5-ink color.
